Things I have learned

We are now about 25% of the way through the pregnancy, and here are a few things I have learned thus far:

1. All the advice given to fathers in baby books, etc, can be summed up in four words--"Do whatever she wants."
2. While we are told about mood swings, they don't tell us about hunger swings.
3. Someone needs to develop cold medicine that is safe for pregnant women.
4. Women have a certain intuition about their bodies, but that does not mean that they necessarily "feel pregnant."
5. There was a story about one of my grandparents dogs who knew when he had gotten another dog pregnant and became very protective of her, making sure the other dogs did not eat until she did. I was hoping our cat would also share this uncanny sense and become protective of Diane. Apparently, cats could care less.
6. You cannot hear the baby's heart beat with a stethoscope at this stage.
7. A pregnant woman will start using the baby to her advantage by saying, "The baby wants you to buy peanut butter eggs" or "The baby wants you to iron the clothing."

I know that there will be much more to learn. I will update you when I am not washing the dishes, doing the laundry, or making unplanned road trips to the grocery store.

  1. "Do whatever she wants." Yep...get used to that!

PS: The baby wants some jellybeans :)

  3. Yup, the baby wants you to do everything. There's no negotiating this. The baby is also very picky and particular about what it likes to eat and when. You can't argue with nature's calls. By the way, much of this continues after the baby is born. :)

P.S.--The stethoscope never works very well at all unless you have a fetoscope attachment. I tried to use it until the week before I delivered. Just bring home a doppler.
